Adjust the fit, add padding, choose cool colors, and more for ultimate comfort and style! Let’s get started on making your gear as awesome as you are!
1. Get Comfy with the Right Materials
I’ve always been big on experimenting with hood materials.
I’ll save you time and give you my rundown of what I’ve found through my attempts:
Leather
Vibing with the classic, edgy leather pup hood never goes out of style.
It feels snug, and you might have to get used to the texture for a while.
But it molds to your face shape over time. That’s awesome in my book!
Through my tries, though, I’ve noticed that leather can get pretty heavy and warm.
So it’s not my first choice for long seshs.
If you’re in it for the long haul, keep an eye on how the leather feels temperature-wise.
Neoprene
Neo-what? Not familiar with neoprene fabric?
Well, if you ever owned a mouse pad, I’ll say you’re actually pretty familiar with this fabric.
Neoprene is super flexible and comfortable.
That’s why it’s popular in the computer market as well.
For pup hoods, it’s great if you want a lil stretch in your gear.
Like leather, neoprene pup hoods keep you warm.
It keeps you warm, which is nice, but sometimes it can get a bit sweaty.
If you’re like me and tend to run a bit hot, you might want to consider how that might impact your play.
Silicone
The best pup hood so far are made of silicone.
I personally have the Silicone Puppyman Mask and it’s gonna be with me for a long time.
The material’s sturdy and easy to clean. Which, for a lazy bum like me, is a huge plus.
When it comes to realism, silicone is unbeatable, too!
Choosing the Best Material
When picking your material, think about what you’ll be doing.
- For intense play and durability, leather and silicone are your top choices.
- If you’re all about comfort and flexibility, neoprene could be your best bet.
2. Nail the Pup Hood Fit
There are endless pup hood offers out there. But you won’t be able to fit your head in all of them!
Don’t worry though, there are just peeps with bigger or smaller heads than others.
This shouldn’t stop you from finding your pup hood in any way. After all, you can always go for adjustable hoods!
Why should you care about the fit?
Well, I’ve learned from experience that a good fit is crucial when it comes to how much you enjoy your smexy time.
Why Fit Matters
I’ll give you a clue: It’s not just about aesthetics!
It’s functionality above all. Would you like to constantly adjust your pup hood while doing unholy things to your loverboy?
I don’t! That’s why I don’t play with how my pup hood fits.
Measuring for the Perfect Size
To nail down the perfect size, start with a tape measure.
Wrap it around the widest part of your head, usually just above your ears.
Compare this measurement to the size chart for the pup hood you’re interested in.
Most brands provide a guide to help you choose the right size.
They also offer instructions for measuring your head.
Adjustable Features
One of my favorite things about modern pup hoods is the adjustable features.
Look for hoods with straps or buckles. These are super handy because you can fine-tune the fit.
DIY Tweaks or Professional Tailoring
Still not happy with the fit after using the adjustable features?
Then, do some DIY tweaks! Adding extra padding or making small adjustments can make a big difference.
For the perfect fit, you might want to take your pup hood to a professional tailor.
They can make precise changes for that perfect fit you’ve been dreaming of.
3. Show Off Your Unique Pup Hood
Your pup hood becomes truly yours when you let it show off your personality.
Choose Colors and Designs That Scream “You”
What’s your favorite color? Mine’s garnet, so I also have a Garnet Silicone Puppyman Mask at home.
You see, picking the colors and designs you envision is a surefire way to express yourself.
I’ve found that choosing colors I love makes me feel even more connected to my gear.
If all-black is more you, then go for it!
Custom Paint Jobs, Patches, and Embroidery Ideas
I’m a creative person, so it’s a no-brainer to add amazing designs to my pup hood.
It’s always a blast showing them off!
Custom works are about custom paint jobs with your favorite patterns or colors.
It can also be patches and embroidery. Adding your initials or a fun graphic is pretty common.
Themed Hoods
I’ve seen some incredible superhero and animal print hoods in my pup era.
They’re perfect to announce how bold and playful you are!
A themed hood can be a great way to show off your interests.
Add Your Own Insignias or Logos
What do you think about your own insignias or logos for an extra personal touch?
I’ve added a few custom logos to mine, and it’s a great way to make it truly unique.
If you have a personal symbol that’s meaningful to you, brand your pup hood with it! It’ll make it even more special.
4. Upgrade with Cool Features
Adding more cool features to your pup hood will never be a wrong move!
As long as it doesn’t affect your ability to breathe when you have the hood on, you’re golden!
Functional Add-Ons
One of the best upgrades you can have is those that actually make things easier for you.
Examples:
- Detachable muzzles offer versatility. Use them when you want a bit more control, or remove them if you want to be less intimidating.
- Built-in leashes are another great addition. They’re perfect for keeping things hands-free while still being in control. Built-in leashes Plus, you can stay connected without fumbling with extra gear.
Innovative Extras
If you’re into tech, then you know there is far cooler stuff you can do to your hood!
- LED lights are best for pup hoods with a futuristic edge. They’re also common in the furry, specifically the Protogen community. Nothing too bright here. Add lights for more visibility in low-light settings.
- Sound modules are another neat option. Imagine adding sounds that complement your play or even responding to commands!
Ensuring Safety and Comfort
While these features are awesome, it’s important to make sure they’re safe.
Always check that any add-ons are securely attached and don’t interfere with your breathing.
5. Take Care of Your Pup Hood, and It’ll Take Care of You
Keeping your pup hood in top shape is key to making sure it stays comfortable and looking great.
I’ve learned a few things about maintaining different materials and how to extend the life of your gear.
Cleaning and Maintenance Tips
Different materials need different care.
- For leather, I use a damp cloth to wipe it down, followed by a leather conditioner to keep it supple. Leather can get stiff if you don’t keep it conditioned.
- Neoprene is pretty easy to clean. I just rinse it with cool water and let it air dry.
- For silicone, a simple wipe with a mild soap and water solution does the trick. Make sure to rinse thoroughly and dry it completely to avoid any build-up.
Best Ways to Store Your Pup Hood
Depending on the material of your pup hood, you can’t just let it be and risk folds and other deformation.
I hang mine up in a cool, dry place to avoid creases or warping.
Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or in a damp area, as this can cause damage to the material.
If you’re short on space, a padded bag can help protect it from dust and keep it in good shape.
Regular Checks for Wear and Tear
I always make a point to regularly check my pup hood for any signs of wear and tear.
Look for things like loose stitching, tears, or any areas that might be starting to fray.
Catching these issues early means you can do minor repairs before they turn into bigger problems.
For small tears, I use fabric glue or a sewing kit, depending on the material.
